The cooler stands vertically in the stream of air like a radiator. engine oil is pumped through the cooler on the “tube side,” while air is blown through the “fin side” of the cooler to cool the oil. In 1971 the larger ‘doghouse’ style aircooler was introduced and a higher-capacity (wider) cooling fan was installed. This design gives better cooling to the #3 cylinder. The doghouse oil cooler is located outside and immediately in front of the fan housing on the left and vents to the atmosphere.
